This region is known for its beautiful blueways – most notably, the vast Dan River in upstate North Carolina. This river offers plenty of recreational activities, from canoeing and kayaking to fishing and bird watching. The Mayo River, Smith River and Haw River are all excellent options for beginner paddlers. Lakes in the area for recreational swimming and boating include Belews Lake, Lake Reidsville and Lake Hunt. With an abundance of places to swim and fish, the outdoor areas in the Blueways community are unparalleled within the Triad. A Flourishing Arts Community

Arts and history attractions throughout this region offer unparalleled experiences. Historical sites like the Governor Reid House and Civil War Trail, in addition to the Museum & Archives of Rockingham County (MARC) which displays local history and artifacts. Immerse yourself in cultural performances by checking out the upcoming schedule of events at Rockingham County Theatre Guild and the Rockingham County Arts Council. Dan River Art Market provides a great place to admire and purchase artwork. Meanwhile, the RCC Center for Creative Woodworking offers a chance to explore a new passion in woodworking.
